‘NCIS’ Closes in on ‘Idol’ Numbers

Is American Idol really on its way out? This early in the season, the ratings juggernaut is showing chinks in its previously infallible armor, as rival procedural NCIS is starting to gain ground against it.

While Idol still won the night on Tuesday last week, its Los Angeles audition episode was down 12 percent, resulting to 24.2 million viewers. NCIS, meanwhile, while also slightly down, reeled in 20.2 mil, resulting in the closest margin yet between the two shows.

Family?

By admin, January 31, 2010 4:16 pm

I don’t know if this has been discussed on another thread but I have wondered ever since "Flesh and Blood" about the families of characters. This is mywhat I know and please fill in what I have left out or erroneously stated:

Ducky:We know he has a mother and had lived with her since she is know in a home. No mention of siblings.

Gibbs: He has a father but I don’t recall a mention of any mother dead or alive. No siblings either.

Tony: He has a father and step-mothers. His mother died when he was young’un. Only child and unclear if he has step-brothers/sisters.

Ziva: Father, Director of Mossad and also don’t recall mention of a mother. Ari, half-brother, and younger sister; both dead.

Tim: We know he has a sister but don’t know about parents or other siblings.

Abby: I don’t recall any mention of family. Knowing Abby, I would be curious to see what her family would be like.

Palmer: Knows he writes home but also, no background.

We have seen more fathers than mothers. If they continue with character developments, I do hope that it’s someones mother.

NCIS: future spin-off?

By admin, January 31, 2010 4:16 pm

The 2-part episode (6.22 & 6.23) titled "Legend" is set in Los Angeles. Depending on the success of this special episode, CBS is considering a spin-off featuring LL Cool J (as Special Agent Sam Hanna) and Chris O'Donnell (as Special Agent G. Callen) to begin this fall.

This page is to post whatever you want about the possibility! Links, quotes, trivia, or just your own thoughts in the bottom "blog" section.

QUOTES - either from the episodes, or interviews with the cast regarding "Legend"
  • Legend Part 1: Nate: (referring to Gibbs) you should've slept with him way back then. Macy glares. Nate: whenever way back then was, I was probably in elementary school yeah? Macy: how do you know I didn't? Nate I can tell you right now… Macy: DON'T answer that. Macy shakes her finger. Nate: okay, cool. Macy: you scare me. Nate: yup. Macy: leave. Nate turns to leave and signals to the door. Nate: go. Macy find Callun Nate (sarcastic) yea, right. -ilovencis7
  • Legend Part 2: Nate: I uh, I took an oath not to betray confidences, but um, I can't see any harm in telling you a story. Eighteen years ago there was this young Lieutenant in the military police who investigated a murder. A marine gunnery sergeant had taken out this Mexican drug dealer who killed his family. The young Lieutenant interrogated the suspect, didn't hold back. He just wanted closure and she wouldn't leave his wife and daughter to rest in peace. Gibbs fighting back tears. Nate: Kinda thing that stays with you. Anyway uh, she got all the evidence together and, then she buried it. Gibbs looks surprised. Nate: Decided it wasn't just killing. My guess is that the guy never even knew that she had been protecting him all these years. Well, I think I had enough fresh air. Nate nods and Gibbs leaves. As he is about to get in his car, Gibbs stares up at the surveillance camera on which Macy is watching him. He nods and smiles. A Gibbs-thank you. -ilovencis7

TRIVIA - can be about a cast member or character regarding "Legend"

COMMENTS / THOUGHTS BLOGplease use a different color than the member before you.
This is intense. XD I'm very excited about the prospect of a new NCIS. Hopefully it'll be almost as good as the original! <3 -bourbon_bonbon
I'm actually incredibly excited about this new spin-off. It's really going to take the NCIS 'universe' in a different direction. From what little we saw of the new characters, I found myself saying about all of them (even Kenzi, especially in the 'car scene') that I couldn't wait to find out more about all of them and how they work together. – snowglass
I completely agree with you there. Can't wait to see if the show is gonna be taken on by CBS. I would watch it. And hopefully we'll find out soon.
As long as the original NCIS is still being produced (especially after the end of Aliyah), I don't mind another version of it. But if i had to pick one over the other I'd pick the original. Definitely.
I think that the spin-off will do just as good as the original. Can't wait till September!!!
i think we have a winner here. My be it will spawn alot of spin off like Law in Order. the original is the best. Nothing can replace NCIS
I read on Wiki that NCIS is a spin-off of JAG. Since JAG is not running anymore, I really hope they keep the original. Nothing can replace Abby and McGee!
NO!!! NO!!! they should NOT!! NCIS is a show that is Really big at the moment! they shouldn't just start a new one. Where i am (Australia) they have not aired Legends 2, Semper Fidelis or Aliyah so i dont think they should yet. NCIS can NOT be replaced so making a spin off would just wreck the whole concept of the show.
I dont know, I really like the current NCIS and now that CBS HAS agreed to take on the new show I'm skeptical on how it will ruin/be great for the "old" ncis. Who knows I like some of the CSI's better than the original… (Though NCIS is the #1 on my list of TV shows any day)
Ever since I heard Louise Lombard won't be part of the series starting this fall I pondered the idea of Hollis Mann coming back, especially since NBC cancelled her series Kings. So I started an on line petition you may wanna sign. Won't cost you more than a few mouse clicks. So please sign: to get Hollis Mann as head of the NCIS:LA-team
As I posted in the discussion area, Linda Hunt has signed on to be the team leader on "NCIS: Los Angeles." Her character's name is not known but since Louise Lombard is not coming back as Macy for the series (which I think sucks), Hunt's character, in esseence, replaces Lombard's "Macy"
at first I was like oh god the ratings are gonna fall CBS should not have done this but as the time 2 the season opener moves closer and closer i am really looking forward to it and i think that it should be given a chance and not shut down rite away by the trulely loyal NCIS fans I mean look at CSI it may help the first series but as long as they dont do anything as stupid as getting rid of Mark i think that both the new and old r going to be fine!-Jethrofan45
I think the new NCIS could be really good. They set up the original really well for season 7 and I am not too worried about it falling apart. Most shows tend to suck near the end, but NCIS just keeps getting better. Of the new crew, I like Nate the best. He is wierd and seems to know more than he should because he is a psychologist. Callen is a little too dramatic, and Kenzie is a tough lady, I think I will like her too.
I think it's pretty cool, but I just hope they just don't do like CSI and make 3 or 4.I'll probably watch it, cause it'll be like a completly different show too me.Because NCIS is Team Gibbs and any other team just doesn't cut it.But I'll watch it, cause the charcters in Legnds 1-2 were really cool.

Sexual Orientation?

By admin, January 31, 2010 10:45 am

Somebody made an interesting post about whether Tim McGee might be gay. Which made me wonder about all the other characters. So rather than hijack the Tim thread to post about everyone else, I thought I’d start a new topic. Obviously on the show sexual orientation isn’t actually explored in any meaningful way (although would it have killed them to have made one of the regulars openly gay?!), and nor would we want it to be I expect as we wouldn’t want to take away from the plots. However, for the sake of a bit of fun speculation, here are my thoughts:

.

I think McGee is the straightest character on the show. I’ve never seen him as anything but heterosexual.Tejas pointed out that Vance is also very straight and I agree with that.

.

I believe Ziva hinted she was bisexual very early on in S3. Whether she was doing that to wind Tony up I don’t know, but I can very easily see her as bisexual.

.

I’ve always thought Tony is either totally gay (because nobody makes that much fuss about being straight if they aren’t trying to hide something *g*) or he’s bi – because he does flirt with both Tim and Gibbs an awful lot for a straight guy.

.

Abby wouldn’t have any problems dating a woman if she fell in love with one. I think she’d be totally up for it.She’s probably experimented a bit and is perfectly happy and comfortable with her sexuality.

.

Ducky…hmmm…dunno! I think he could "swing both ways" as Tony put it. He is single and lived with his mother for many years, but I don’t want to descend into stereotypes.

.

Gibbs – bi.I can totally see him having experimented, especially in all male environments, and he’s been in a lot of those! And there’s always the possibility that he might one day succomb to Tony’s flirting, if he hasn’t already!

Dead Reckoning

Synopsis:
Gibbs and the team must work with a shady Trent Kort to put away one of NCIS' most wanted. (CBS Synopsis)

Episode Recap
Trent Kort (a CIA operative first seen in 4.14 Blowback with La Grenouille) shoots and kills two men at a construction site. He wipes and places a gun in one of the man's hand then calls Gibbs. Later, Gibbs goes to the scene and meets with Kort. Kort tells Gibbs that the men shot each other. He says that the men belong to a criminal organization run by a man named Siravo. Gibbs tells Kort that he is lucky that the men shot each other. He looks at the man's gun and notes that he is carrying a .45, Kort's weapon of choice. Kort holds up a Beretta and says he now carries a 9mm.

At headquarters, the team wonders where Gibbs is. McGee finds that Gibbs' cell phone signal is close by. Gibbs calls Tony and tells him to go to the construction site. At the scene, Kort tells the team that the men killed each other. Tony tells Kort that his story sounds phony. Tony tells Ziva that he doesn't trust Kort because he tried to kill him and he blew up his car (5.01 Bury Your Dead). Later, they see a sedan pull into the construction site. They surprise the man with their guns drawn. Kort wonders who the man is.

At the headquarters, the team learns that Siravo is engaged in criminal activities all over the world. They see that Siravo had a ship named the Borealis. Perry Sterling, the man from the construction site, is brought to the interrogation room. Vance is suspicious of Kort arriving at the end of the gun battle at the construction site. Gibbs meets with Perry in the room. The man tells Gibbs that he is an accountant, that he got lost and entered the construction site to ask for directions. Gibbs asks Perry about Siravo and he admits that he is his accountant. Gibbs asks about the Borealis and Perry says that Siravo doesn't own it. Perry says that he moves Siravo's criminally obtained money into clean businesses. He asks Gibbs for immunity in exchange for his testimony. Vance tells Gibbs that he is going to contact the U.S. Attorney.

Abby tells Ducky that she found shell casings from a caliber that is different than the ones used to kill the men at the construction site. She tells Gibbs that she thinks there was a third shooter.

In the office, Tony tells Kort that he thinks that he is lying to the team. Gibbs and Tony enter the briefing room. Vance shows Tony and Gibbs a video showing the Borealis being blown up by a bomb planted onboard. Gibbs returns to the interrogation room and sees that Perry is taking drugs for his reflux disorder. Gibbs shows Perry the photos of the men that were killed at the construction site. Perry figures that Siravo was closing up shop and wanted him dead. Perry says that he knows how to get ahold of Victor Flores, Siravo's number two. Perry asks Gibbs if he knows Captains of Industry 3. McGee and Abby learn that Captains of Industry 3 is an online game that barely anyone plays. They figure that Perry used the game to communicate with other criminals.

Tony asks Kort why he thinks the men killed each other. Kort says that he thinks that the men had a secret lover suicide pact. Tony asks Kort why he dug up information on Vance. Kort tells him that he didn't have to read Vance's file.

Tony, Perry and Ziva go to the safe house. Perry looks around and says that he doesn't like his surroundings. Perry says that he is hungry and tells Tony that he is on a macrobiotic diet.

McGee and Abby create avatars and play Captains of Industry 3. They figure that Perry and Flores use codes to communicate. They receive a message from Flores and learn that he wants to meet Perry at the park. Gibbs and Kort leave to meet Flores.

Back at the safe house, Ziva tells Perry that she can't believe that he never had a girlfriend. Perry says that he thought that making lots of money would help him meet women. Tony returns to the safe house with food. Perry tells Tony that he is out of pills and that he needs to take one with every meal.

Gibbs and Kort find Flores' car at the park. They discover Flores' dead body and another man who was also shot and killed. Later, the team goes to the scene to investigate. Ducky and Jimmy say that the men where killed less than two hours ago. Gibbs and Kort figure that the men killed each other. McGee tells Gibbs that both men worked for Siravo. Later, Gibbs updates Vance about the case. Vance tells Gibbs that Kort was suspended by the CIA. Vance tells Gibbs that he knows that Kort gave him his file. Vance tells Gibbs to find out what Kort wants in exchange for helping him.

Back at the safe house, Tony tells Perry that he will get his immunity as soon as he talks to the U.S. Attorney and passes a polygraph. Tony tells Perry that he is going to spend the rest of his life moving from safe house to safe house.

Ducky and Jimmy talk about barbershop music. Jimmy says that he used to be a tenor in college. Ducky says that the unique characteristic about barbershop music is the fifth note, the sound that is made when the voices combine. Ducky says that they are missing the fifth note from the quartet of dead bodies that they found. Gibbs walks in and tells Ducky that he found horse manure on all of the dead men. Ducky tells Gibbs that he thinks that Siravo is staying at a place where there is horse manure.

Ziva walks down the street and sees two men walk toward Perry's safe house. Ziva calls Tony and tells him about the ambush. Ziva enters the safe house and shoots both men as they break into the apartment. Later, U.S. Marshalls arrive and take custody of Perry.

Abby tells McGee that she thinks that there is a leak. Gibbs arrives at the lab and show Abby and McGee the GPS log from Flores' car. Gibbs sees that the car stopped at a horse ranch. They figure that the ranch is Siravo's hideout.

The team heads out to the ranch where they discover that Siravo is comatose under a nurse's care.

Back at headquarters, Tony and Ziva figure that someone created a criminal empire using Siravo's name. McGee discovers that Siravo became comatose after he got into a motorcycle accident. McGee sees that Siravo's money is being drained from his accounts. They figure that the money is being seized by the CIA.

Abby calls Gibbs and tells him that he thinks that she aided in a murder. Abby says that the online game communication was sent through an open forum and that she accidentally ordered someone to kill Flores. Gibbs calls Kort and tells him that he knows that he drained Siravo's money.

Gibbs and Tony head over to Kort at the U.S. Marshall office. Kort approaches one of the U.S. Marshalls and tells him that he wants to take custody of Perry. Perry takes a gun and shoots the Marshalls, he then shoots Kort in the shoulder. Perry tells Kort to give him his money back. Gibbs and Tony arrive, surround Perry and force him to surrender.

Back at the headquarters, the team figures that Perry used his power of attorney to continue to run Siravo's criminal operation. Kort tells Vance and Gibbs that he wanted to capture Perry so he could get back into the CIA.

New Character Development / Insights:
  • Director Vance does not like the CIA in his Building. My guess is that he hates the CIA.

Funny Moments:
  • The team arguing over who would call Gibbs taking turns at checking things
  • "newscaster" Tony
  • Tony talking to the NCIS most wanted wall and calling it "the real victim"
  • Ducky and Palmer finding a common interest in music and singing together
  • Tony telling Kort to go the the giftshop and buy a personality
  • Jimmy used to be a tenor in a barbershop quartertet.

Trivia:
  • The opening scene and the final scene are shot in adjacent locations, at 12th & Broadway in Los Angeles. The opening scene is shot in the construction site on Hill St., behind the Herald Examiner building, while the final scene with Kort and the U.S. Marshalls is shot in the adjacent alley that runs alongside the Public Works Building.
  • The building used to film the "Safe House" scene is located at 1220 S. Olive St. in Los Angeles.
  • At the beginning when McGee is searching for Gibbs by searching for his cellphone GPS, the computer shows 'J. Leroy Gibbs' as a label for the cellphone. It should be 'L. Jethro Gibbs' as his proper name is Leroy Jethro Gibbs, not Jethro Leroy Gibbs.

NOROMO!!!

By admin, January 31, 2010 8:33 am

This is a thread for those who don’t want to see any romantic pairings on NCIS. No McAbby, no lawyer woman for Gibbs, and definitely no"TIVA" (shudder). Here we can concentrate on the plots, the characters, and the show, without it all being gobbled up in some long and tedious ship discussion. This thread is for those people for whom "NCIS" does not = "TIVA". It’s for those who think romance is best left to fanfic and who much prefer the show to provide subtext for all and text for none.

.

We can also use the thread to intepret any hideous ship anvil in an utterly noromo way.I will get the ball rolling with something I posted on another thread.

.

A friend of mine has come up with some great theories about “Jetlag”:

.

The reason why Tony is in a good mood the day after spending the night with Ziva is because he’s relieved she didn’t kill him in his sleep.
.

And the reason he gives her the photo with her in it at the end is because it’s the only one he didn’t want to keep
