The best things can fit in small spaces. 21
It was a warm autumn day at NCIS headquarters. The clock lazily turned 9am and Ziva was just walking in. She threw her bag over her desk and plopped down in her chair. “Your a little late aren't you?” asked McGee. “Is Gibbs not here yet?”countered Ziva. “No, and neither is Tony.” “Well, at least I am not the last one in.” she sang. The elevator doors opened and Tony came rushing to his desk. He searched the room looking for Gibbs. He let out a sigh of relief “Where's the boss?” “Haven't seen him yet.” answered McGee. “Why are you so late this morning?” asked Ziva with a little friendly question in her voice. She came to stand in front of his desk. His shirt was wrinkled and his hair was not brushed back like it usually was. “None of your business” he answered with a smile. “Well, you came in late which usually never happens.” She began to pace back and forth. “You obviously were in a big hurry to get here. Get changed in the car did you? I would guess you didn't spend the night at home.” She finished with both hands on his desk, it was one of her interrogation techniques. “Well aren't you just Ms. Investigative this morning! And if you must know….” “Know what Tony?” asked Gibbs All three agents jumped at the sound of his voice. “Ah…. we were just wondering where you were boss.” “I was up in MTAC with the director. We have a lead on some terrorist groups in the area. Ziva, DiNozzo!” “Yes” came from both agents. “Any reason why you were late this morning?” “Ah, we, I um” neither had a good answer.
“McGee, your with me.” The two agents grabbed they're gear and headed out of the office. McGee passed them and flashed a big smile. “Um, and what about us boss” asked DiNozzo standing and watching McGee and Gibbs leave. A sad look came upon his face. He did not want to be left behind. “You can get me all information on Amit Kerem.” and with that he was gone. The elevator doors shut and Tony turned back into the room. “So…. where were you last night?” asked Ziva again. “No time for talk of my love life now. I don't think you really want to hear about it anyway” Tony smirked. “Try me” insisted Ziva
* Gibbs and McGee were going on the second hour sitting outside the industrial building in North Virginia. Trucks lined one side of the building, a wall made of bricks and covered in bushes lined the back, and the guards were in a constant walk around the building. Heavy security.
“We have just received intelligence from our contact in Israel. They have been moving heavy artillery to his building over the last couple of weeks. They are going to use it to fund terrorist groups in our area.” “Are we going to go in and stop them at some time or…” McGee trailed off. Gibbs was giving him the stare. “We have word that Amit Kerem is going to be here Friday night. We are here to take him out. Then we can go in and stop them, is that alright with you McGee?” “Right boss” “Can you get blueprints on this building. I want to know every square inch, openings, potential hiding places, exits, I want everything” “On it boss” McGee opened his laptop and began to type. Jethro stared at the building. Men carried boxes into the front doors, he knew it was going to be a big bust. He was looking forward to taking this target out. * Back at the office Tony and Ziva sat at their desks. They had pulled all the information on their new main man and had hoped to redeem themselves when Gibbs got back. The sun was beginning to set and the day was almost over, or so they thought. The elevator doors open and out stepped Gibbs and a tired looking McGee. Tony stood up out of his chair and with a smile on his face he attempted to update Gibbs. “Boss-” “Tony” Gibbs cut him off. “Coffee” “Isn't that McProbies job?”When Gibbs didn't answer, DiNozzo frowned and took off to run his errand. Ziva smiled and pulled up the information on the big screen. “We found over the last 18 years he had worked for almost every crime boss we know of. He has been the supplier for over 10 terrorist groups and is wanted in 7 countries for over 16 murders. He will be flying in on a private jet and it is landing the day after tomorrow in our international airport. Not very discrete if you ask me” “It's about time for him to be caught. How does someone get away with it for so long?” added McGee. “McGee, I want all the blueprints downstairs in evidence in 10 minutes.” Just as he was turning to leave, DiNozzo came running around the corner with a steaming cup of coffee. They almost collided. “Sorry Boss” “I want everyone down in the evidence room now” he huffed and walked towards the stairs. * Down in the evidence room, a board was set up and the blueprints of the industrial building covered the surface. A table was set up and all three agents sat in front of they're fearless leader ready to hear the game plan.
“We know there is going to be a big shipment out of weapons and that it is happening this Friday. Our mission is to take out this man” Gibbs pointed to the picture of Kerem “and to take all weapons in this warehouse” He pointed to the blueprints. “McGee, how are we getting in?”
“Well Boss, easier said than done. This place is like a fortress. I took video off of near by traffic cameras and this building is under constant security. There are two exits.” He got up and pointed it out on the blueprints “Here, and here. From inside the building it is pretty regular. One big room on the bottom level and the upstairs is offices, which looks like they aren't using much. I'm… I'm not quite sure how to get in Boss” He looked to Gibbs. Again the stare…. he returned to his seat.
“We could rush the building with every agent in the area.” suggested DiNozzo.
“And give Kerem has time to get away in the chaos? No, I suggest maybe a inside operation. We can get a man in the warehouse before hand to take Kerem out, and when it is done then we can rush the building” offered Ziva.
“No they probably already have all of the men working there picked out. We don't have time to plant a agent” objected DiNozzo.
“Well at least it was better than your idea” snapped Ziva. The two agents looked at each other, ready to argue. “Hey, you two, are you done?” Gibbs interrupted. “We will get in through the ventilation ducts. I want you all to build a model of the ventilation system and work your way through. Ziva will go in and take out Kerem, then we will rush the building.” with that he left the room to let the agents work. “You really shouldn't back talk to me Ziva, after all I am the senior agent.” “Oh yeah” she said with a sweet smile. “You can take your senior agent and shove it up your” “Ah” DiNozzo gasped. “Yeah, I taught her that one” admitted McGee with a grin. *
On Gibbs' way over to autopsy, he called over to Abby and asked her to assist his agents with the perfect measurements of the ventilation ducts. He stepped through the doors to autopsy and looked over Ducky who was in the process of cutting open another unfortunate soul. “Oh Jethro, its nice to see you. I don't think I have missed anything. Are you here to ask me about a body? I didn't know I had any of yours.” He looked around himself as if he was looking for something he may have dropped. “No Ducky, I just need some advice.” “Ah I see.” Ducky acknowledged Gibbs request and took the hat off his head. “How can I be of assistance?” “Amit Kerem. He is going to be here this week to oversee a big shipment of his weapons. A man like him doesn't get sloppy. He requested to land here in our airport and he knows everyone is looking for him.” “Is there a question in there Jethro?” “I am wondering why someone like him would so openly land here without even trying to be sneaky?” “It reminds me of a fellow I knew back in 1968. He was a extremely smart man, graduated top of his class. He got in a little trouble that year and instead of hiding..” “Ducky.” Gibbs interjected. “Maybe he wants you to know he is here. Maybe he is planning something extra for those who are looking for him.” Gibbs smiled. “Thanks Duck” He turned and left autopsy. Ducky placed his hat back on his head and returned to his work. He leaned forward as to get close to his patients ear. “He, my friend, led all of the police to his place of employment on purpose just so he could slip away while they were searching the wrong place.” *
“This cannot be right.” murmured Ziva David. She was stuck in the model of the ventilation system they had been working on. “It looks right from this angle” grinned Tony standing behind Ziva. She kicked back with her heals and nicked Tony's lower leg. “Owe” She slipped out of the box and stood up. There is no way I can fit in there. This whole system is too small. Plus there are corners, I will not be able to fit in there plus a weapon.” She wiped the sweat off her forehead. Tony looked at her. Slightly glistening, her face showed a woman who was deep in thought trying to figure the puzzle out. He admitted to himself that she was extremely beautiful. She caught him looking at her. “What?” “I am just thinking” DiNozzo spoke up. “We need someone small. Someone tiny. Like the mayor of munchkin land or something. A muchkin trained in special opps” Gibbs stepped off the elevator and looked to the large display of boxes that littered the floor. “This looks promising” he stated sarcastically. The agents looked from one to the other, trying to figure out who was going to break the bad news. “Wont work Boss. None of us can fit in there.” McGee stammered. “Ziva tried, she got stuck right around the mid section area.” DiNozzo pointed down towards Ziva's booty. She smacked his hand away. “We are going to need to hire a child to make this hit for us. Maybe we can pay by the hour. What is minimum wage these days?” “Or a small agent” said Gibbs. “Have anyone in particular in mind Boss?” “Yea, as a matter of fact I do.” He picked up his phone and the call was answered. “I am going to need you here asap.” with that he returned to the elevator. “Someone we know Boss?” asked Tony again. “Someone” the doors closed.
“YES!” Tony called with a clap of his hands. “Who is the smallest agent you can think of?” “Um, agent Lee?” questioned McGee. “No smaller, and surprisingly more curvy. I'm thinking a newly appointed Officer Mitchell.”
* Mitchell stepped of the elevator and set her bag down on DiNozzo's desk. She took a good look around. She was happy to be back on team Gibbs. Last time she was there was under totally different circumstances and she was happy to be able to be part of the team this time. She took a seat and after a minute of waiting, she began to get bored. She looked around again, no agent was in sight. She opened the top drawer of DiNozzo's desk slowly and took out a copy of his favorite magazine and began reading. “Go figure” she said after seeing it was a skin magazine. After a couple of minutes, Ziva appeared. “Officer Mitchell, good to have you back” a voice came from behind. She came to sit at her desk and Mitchell put the magazine down and stood up. “Its good to be here.” “Tony will be glad to see you.” Ziva commented. She looked behind where Mitchell was standing and saw Tony coming around the corner. When he saw Mitchell he stopped, straightened his jacket, checked his breath, and moved forward with an extra swing in his step and a big grin on his face. “Well hello Officer Mitchell, its good to see you here.” “Is it?” She asked. Tony stopped. He wore a puzzled expression. “Is what” “Is it good to see me here?” she grinned and turned towards him. She leaned back on to the desk, as to give Tony the best view, and crossed her arms. “Well yea of course.” His looked her up and down and felt his ego faltering a little under Mitchell's pressure. “Ah, hu” she turned away from him. Tony came to stand behind Mitchell. “You never called “ “Actually, I did” “I never got any messages.” “Check again. They are there. I never left a message but I did call…. twice” Tony pulled out his note book and pen “ I am going to need a date and a time” “June 10th, that night…..” she tried to remember the time. “You remember specifically the date and time that you called me? Well, Officer Mitchell, you make a man blush” “Don't” she commanded. DiNozzo smiled. “You missed me didn't you?” “No I did not miss you.” “Oh yea, then why did you sit at my desk hu, hu?” Mitchell smiled. Ziva listened to the quite conversation from her desk. She was both happy and sad to see Mitchell back. She wasn't quite sure which one yet. “Leah!” a yell came from behind the group. It was Abby. She ran to Mitchell and the girls shared a hug. “I am so glad to have you back. I hear you are going to be our little rat” “I'm going to what?” Mitchell questioned. “Come with us. We need to start practicing” said Abby and she led the way to the evidence room. * Mitchell examined the maze of boxes that littered the floor. “We will talk your way through it. For now, lets just see if you will fit.” McGee told Mitchell. “O.K, lets do it.” “Yes, lets.” Tony grinned and looked down to Mitchell kneeling down to the opening . He looked to Ziva. His gaze was met with a frown and Ziva shook her head no. A blush crept onto Tony's cheeks and he looked to the ceiling. Mitchell easily was able to crawl through the boxes. “9 lengths forward. Take a right, 7 lengths forward take a left.” McGee guided her through the maze. “She is making it through it easily. I never thought it would be a good thing to be tiny like that.” murmured Ziva. “Well, sometimes the best things can fit in small spaces.” Gibbs pointed out, appearing like out of thin air behind the group. “Well said Gibbs” smiled Abby. “Amen to that” said Mitchell stepping out from the end of the maze. She looked around at the boxes she just crawled through. “Good, now do it again with a weapon.” Gibbs handed her a long sniper riffle. “Alright.” she took the riffle and went back in the boxes. Again she made it through without any trouble. “Oh yeah” “O.K, lets make it concrete. I want it step by step exactly how this is going to go down.” Gibbs turned and went to the elevator. He paused for a moment to scan his eye and was gone. * “He's on the line Agent Gibbs” the directors assistant tried to stop him from interrupting without luck. He pushed the doors open and stood in front of the directors desk. Vance tried to hide his smile. “I'll have to call you back” Click. “Well Jethro, what is it?” “Amit Kerem.” “I see” Vance remembered that name from somewhere. “Is that the same Kerem..” He was cut off by Gibbs. “Same Kerem that took a shot at me back in '92. I think him being here is more than just overseeing his shipments. He could have hired a thousand different guys to do it. He is coming on his own. He is planning something” “And you think his plan has something to do with you” Gibbs gave him a look. “Of course. What do you think he is going to do?” “That's what I want you to figure out.” he turned and made to leave the room. “I thought it was my job to give you orders, not the other way around.” Gibbs paused for a moment and turned back to the director. Again Vance tried to hide his smile, he picked up the phone and started to make a call. *
“Stage 1. Gibbs, McGee, and David wait in van around corner at 19:00. Mitchell and DiNozzo go to the east side of building.” DiNozzo moved from the board to let Ziva take over. “Stage 2. McGee starts timer. We have 15 second between when one guard turns the corner and before guard 2 is coming around the other corner and so on.” McGee came to take Ziva's spot. “Stage 3. DiNozzo takes 30 seconds and two rounds of guards to take off screws holding in ventilation screen” Mitchell took his spot. . “Stage 4. He helps me up into the ventilation system and returns to the van. I move through the system and when I get to the main room I will set up the camera and your eyes” She moved for DiNozzo to take over. “Stage 5. We wait till Kerem is in sight.” He was cut off by Gibbs. “and we take him out” “Ah, yea, and Mitchell high tails it out of there.” Ziva took over “Final stage, Stage 6. We rush the building. DiNozzo and I through the back, and McGee and Gibbs through the front. Mitchell meets us in front. We will have back up from the local cops and the warehouse is under control” The four agents waited for an answer from Gibbs. He looked from one to the other. It was a good plan, he was proud. “O.K. Let's move.” The team exchanged smiles. “That means we did good yes?” Mitchell asked Ziva. “Usually” and the team was off. They had exactly one hour to get into place. Gibbs hoped it would go as easy as the plan was made to. Still he had a uneasy feeling in his gut, and he was going to remember it. * The warehouse was in full swing. Boxes piled half way up the walls filled with almost all weapons known to man, and that Kerem could get his hands on. He had just landed and went straight to his warehouse. Surprisingly he hadn't been followed, but no matter, he had faith that it wouldn't be long until he was met by NCIS. He looked to his watch. His trucks would be moving out soon. As soon as they were full, they would be heading out to locations all over the U.S.A. and, he was about to make a lot of money. He smiled to himself knowing he was the one who had set up the talk between his spy and NCIS. He knew Gibbs was well aware of his presence and he was excited to see his old partner again. Once upon a time, he had known Very Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, maybe even been great friends. Then he got asked by a mutual friend of both of theirs, to join with him and make millions more than was possible being an agent. Of course, he accepted, and his first assignment was to take out Jethro. A small frown snuck its way onto Kerem's face. He had never failed a mission until Gibbs. He was glad he was going to get a second chance at the mission. “Better late than never” he muttered to himself His employees were hard at work and soon the warehouse would be empty and he would be on his way. He was glad to know that at any moment, he would be seeing Jethro again. * Mitchell and DiNozzo crouched in the bushes. “Something is biting me” Mitchell whispered and slapped her neck. “Oh come on Michell, its just a little nature. You ever go camping?” “Is that an invitation Special Agent DiNozzo?” she asked remembering he had made the same response to her not too long ago. “No, I don't like camping either.” “I would rather stay home and watch movies thank you” She prepared her weapon and brought it in front of herself. “I love movies.” he said excitingly. “ Did you see the one where.” “Shhhhh” Mitchell cut him off and put a finger to his lips. Just then a guard passed before them. Mitchell looked to DiNozzo and had to hold in her laugh. His face looked funny with her finger pushing his lip into an awkward twist. “You guys ready” McGee's voice rang over the ear piece. “Set.” “Set” Gibbs was silent. He knew something was going to happen that was not to plan. He knew Kerem, or at least who he used to be as an agent, and he knew he was going to put up a fight. “Ready?” DiNozzo turned to Mitchell and flashed her his famous smile. He placed his hand on her shoulder in reassurance. She felt as if her strength was doubled and at the same time she got butterflies in her stomach. “Focus, come on Leah Focus” she thought to herself. “O.K. Tony the guard is rounding the corner… NOW” The agents rushed into action. DiNozzo was out with his hand sized drill and had two screws out of the wall before he had to rush back into the bushes. Mitchell grabbed him to help him get in before the other guard came around the corner. They paused and waited in silence. “NOW” came from McGee and again DiNozzo jumped down, removed the other two screws, said a silent prayer that the screen wouldn't fall out and jumped back into the bushes. “Its up to you now Leah” She smiled, took a deep breath, she was ready to go. “NOW” Both agents jumped from the bushes and DiNozzo hoisted Mitchell up into the ducts. He didn't care to mind where his hands rested while he pushed her up and, surprisingly enough, they were right on Mitchell's booty. She slid the riffle in first and dove in after it. “You have 3 seconds Tony.” McGee's voice had a hint of concern to it. DiNozzo had only a moment left to dive into the bushes and he had to bring the screen with him, he hadn't enough time to slip it back into place. “Damn” he hoped the guard didn't notice. When the man passed he returned the screen to just resting in its place and returned to the van. He opened the door, took a seat and made a silent prayer for Mitchell. Ziva saw Tony's eyes close and a look of concern washed over his face. “Worried Tony?” Ziva asked. “Aren't you? “ “No, Mitchell is a trained officer. She can handle herself.” “Yea, you are right.” The four agents sat and waited to get a visual. * Mitchell crawled through the ventilation ducts with ease. 11 paces forward, take a left. She tried to remember the directions given to her by McGee. Tony's face kept popping up in her head and, not whole heartily, she pushed it aside. She had a mission she had to concentrate on. She made her way to the end of her trail. She could see into the warehouse and was surprised to see how empty it was. She set up the camera. Back in the van they had visual. Mitchell set up her rifle and found her target. He was sitting in the middle of the room, his back turned to her. She knew it was him because he was the only man not working, obviously the head honcho. “In position” she whispered. “Good. DiNozzo and David in positions.” “On it Boss.” Tony said leaving the van followed by Ziva. She turned around and flashed Gibbs one more smile before slamming the door. Gibbs turned his attention back to the screen. He saw Kerem and as if Kerem could see him too, he half turned his face to look towards the back of the room. Gibbs squinted his eyes. “What are you thinking?” Gibbs murmured. McGee looked to Gibbs. His eyes told McGee what he wanted to know. He knew Gibbs was worried. Mitchell waited in position to hear her orders. Kerem got up and walked around the room that was almost empty. “He is up to something Mitchell, keep a close watch.” “Got it Boss. I have the target, should I engage?” Gibbs' mind went in 1000 different directions. “What is Kerem thinking?” he asked himself again. “O.K. McGee. Lets move.” The two agents rushed to the front of the building and paused just behind the brick wall. “DiNozzo, David in positions?” “Ready to move boss.” “Mitchell.” Gibbs spoke into his jacket. “Here” she whispered. “Take him out.” he ordered. Mitchell took her shot and just as she pulled the trigger Kerem turned slightly and the shot that was supposed to kill, only wounded. Kerem fell to the floor but stood back up holding his shoulder after only a second and looked to Mitchell.
“S**T” she spat and worked on quickly moving backwards out of the ducts. Just then, one of Kerem's men appeared with a weapon, something big and took a shot at Mitchell. She was just inches from the corner. She looked forward, it was coming fast, her hips where behind the corner, now almost to her shoulders. She had only a moment left.. She let out a small yelp and she was lost in a cloud of flames and smoke. All four agents heard the blast. “Mitchell” Gibbs screamed.. “Leah” DiNozzo shouted into his. No answer. The agents had no choice but to rush the building followed close by the police. “NCIS. STATE POLICE everyone freeze.” The men in the room started to scatter. Kerem looked to the front door and jumped at the pain he felt when he moved his neck. She had hit him right below his collar bone. He felt the blood seeping form the wound. He pressed his hand to his skin and looked for Gibbs. He smiled when he saw his old partner looking for him as well. Gibbs turned round and round looking for Kerem. He saw DiNozzo and David enter through the back doors and start to hurd the men towards the rest of the group. Again he tried for Mitchell but was met with no answer. He looked to where she was stationed and it was nothing more than a black, smoking, gaping hole. He took a second to say a prayer for her soul and in the moment that followed he was back in the game. He caught a glimpse of Kerem heading out the back door behind where Ziva was. She was preoccupied with the situation at hand. “Got ya” He ran after Kerem alone. He remembered the sting of the bullet that pierced his chest all those years ago. The wound that came compliments of Kerem. He opened the back door and dead ahead was his old friend, holding a gun to Gibbs head. Gibbs swore to himself for walking into his trap. “Kerem, long time.” “Yes it has my friend.” “I am not your friend” “You have haunted my dreams for many years Jethro. The only mark I ever missed.” “I wouldn't say you missed” Kerem let out a loud and full laugh “Oh right, but you were always stubborn. Wouldn't even die on my terms.” Gibbs began to raise his gun when Kerem paced back and forth. “Ah, ah ,ah drop it” he pressed the cold metal of his gun on Gibbs forehead. He had no choice but to surrender it. He dropped his gun and put his hands behind his head. He shut his eyes and imagined the moment when Kerem would stop playing and pull the trigger. Kerem laughed again. “Your still able to stay calm Jethro, even in the face of death. What a waste, you would have done well on my side.” He moved the gun back to Gibbs forehead. BANG Gibbs opened his eyes in shock. Kerem fell to the ground at Gibbs' feat. Behind him was Officer Mitchell. She held her arm and blood dripped from everywhere he could see on her right side. “Heya Boss” she whispered before also falling to her knees. * Her head felt heavy, a ringing was constant in her ears. Slowly she opened her eyes and taking up her whole vision was none other than Dr. Mallord. “Ah! Doctor” she blurted. “I have to stop waking up here like this” “Good afternoon my dear. It's good to have you back, but I have to agree I would rather you not be here as a patient.” Mitchell slowly sat up. “Whats the damage doc? “Other than the obvious burns on your right side, you are amazingly well my dear, they may leave a little scarring but nothing you can't handle” “Yea, its O.K. I don't mind battle wounds.” She felt with her hands to find the burns she couldn't see. A patch of hair had been burnt off of her temple. She covered it with her hand and gasped. “I think it is pretty cool actually.” Mitchell turned to see Tony standing in the door way, he must have been there the whole time for she didn't hear the door open. “You are about to start a new trend here. I was about to go shave off a patch myself but when Gibbs got wind of it he smacked me. We have an abusive relationship how are you?” She laughed and nodded her head. “How do I look?” “Um….” he paused “Kinda like a burnt steak or something. Speaking of which, are you hungry, I'm famished” he smiled. “No, but I think I would like to go home now.” Tony took her hand and helped her off the table. When he took her hand, a shiver went up her spine and when he didn't let go of her hand right away, she began to blush. “Here you go my dear.” Ducky handed her a tube. “Put this on every day and those burns will be gone in no time. Be sure to keep them clean” “Of course doctor. Thanks for saving me once again.” Ducky smiled. They left autopsy and headed upstairs. Waiting for them was the rest of the group. She said good bye to the team and decided it was time to go home. She stopped to say good bye to Ziva and noticed that she was looking at Tony. Leah watched her for a moment and recognized the look in her eyes. “Are you ever going to tell him?” she asked Ziva “Tell him what” Ziva tried to sound like she didn't know what Leah was talking about. She shared with her a small smile before looking to Tony one more time and turning away. “It was really nice to see you again Officer Mitchell.” Tony and Ziva had locked eyes for a moment before she looked away, the same look could be found in his eyes. “I'll drive you home come on” said Tony taking Leah's bag and leading her to the elevator. Again, they were met by Gibbs. “Great work Officer Mitchell and thank you” he turned and left. “I have a feeling he doesn't say that very often.” “Well, you did stop him from getting his brain blown to bits so I think you deserve a thank you.” he smiled at her. The trip in the elevator was slightly tense. Were they both thinking about they're elevator ride last time Leah was leaving? Maybe, maybe not. They drove in silence for most of the way. DiNozzo turned on the radio and Mitchell's favorite song came on. She began to sing. DiNozzo looked at her and couldn't help but laugh. He had never met a girl quite like her before. He chimed in for the chorus and together they made sweet, well not so sweet music. He pulled up to her apartment and they sat. “Well Leah, once again you never cease to amaze me. You fight bad guys, sing, and have a knack for tunneling in dirty tight spaces. Is there anything you cant do?' She shrugged her shoulders. They looked at each other for a moment and Mitchell turned her cheek and pointed. “Really?” he asked. Mitchell's smile grew. He gave her one slow, small peck on the cheek and she was gone. He waited to see her get in the doorway and noticed that when she closed the door, she paused for a moment behind the glass before moving again. Tony drove straight home. He put down his keys and jacked and went straight for his answering machine. “You have 27 messages.” the mail box voice rang. He never checked his messages. He went back to June 10th. He had two messages both from a number he did not know. He listened to the first one but it was just a hang up. The second was slightly longer. Tony listed to the dead air. He could vaguely hear the sound of someone breathing on the other end. He grinned, deleted the messages, and remembering the number began to dial. ****************** THE END
